Monica Brady-Myerov, a 25-year veteran public radio journalist and host who served as Senior Reporter and Assistant Managing Editor at WBUR in Boston, decided to leave her job and start a company that would bring public radio to the classroom. The initial idea was incubated at LearnLaunchX and the initial result was an EdTech MVP for Listenwise, which took the form of a content-rich WordPress site.
To take their product to the next level, Listenwise turned to Firefield. We evaluated their EdTech MVP, listened to their ideas, needs, and plans for the future. While Listenwise had a wealth of curated content and resources for teachers, they needed a way to manage their content and bring interactive tools to teachers and their students. We got to work planning out the system architecture, feature lists, and user experience.
We launched Listenwise over the summer of 2014 as a free site that provided current event and lessons plans to teachers, as well as Listenwise PREMIUM, a subscription based EdTech service for schools. In addition to showcasing their excellent content, the tool allowed teachers to mange their classrooms, create assignments, and track student’s progress.
Since it’s initial launch, we’ve continued to work with Listenwise, helping them scale, add new features, foster partnerships, and respond to user feedback. Listenwise has won numerous awards, including MassTLC’s Most Innovative Education Technology of 2014, TASA’s Innovation Zone Award, and SIIA Innovation Incubator’s Most Likely to Succeed and was the Runner Up for the Teachers Choice’s award. Recently, Listenwise presented at SXSW, announced a partnership with NPR, and has been named a SIIA Education CODiE Award Finalist for the Best ESL, ELL or World Language Acquisition Solution.
We continue to work with Listenwise as their technical partner in bringing even more exciting EdTech tools and resources to teachers and students.
